Theme: Respect for others Key Text: Matthew 7:12 Additional reading: Matthew 5-7 Jesus had an uncanny ability to take difficult concepts and ideas, and squeeze them into bite-size nuggets that anyone could understand, such as in stories and parables. There is one instance however where He surpasses Himself. He condenses the significance of the whole of Israel’s system of laws AND the message of the great prophets of Israel’s history into one clear and concise sentence: “In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets” Matthew 7:12 How much better a world/country/city/school would this be if everyone would abide by this principle?  Me treating you how I would like to be treated, and you treating me how you would like to be treated. It is as profound as it is simple. Let us make it our aim to not treat others how they deserve to be treated (or how we perceive they deserve to be treated!). Instead, let us show them the kindness that we would like to be shown; speak to them in the respectful manner that we best respond to; let us put them first, instead of ourselves. If we are able to do this, then by God’s grace, we can make our little corner of the world a better place.
