We all know this passage from the Bible “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22) I have read this Bible text over and over. But I really understood it when I visited our SDA hospital in Florida, the largest admitting hospital in America, three years ago. While visiting the wards, I was told by one doctor that several patients suffer not because of physical illness but rather because they were unable to forgive. I came back from America with some books among which one written by Dr Tibbits called “Forgive to Live”. When you are experiencing deep seeded resentment towards someone, your entire psychical body is constricted and full of dense vibrations. Your breathing and blood pressure, and your heart rate and thought patterns are all measurably affected. We can eat healthy and take care of ourselves on a physical level, but if our hearts are filled with anger, resentment our bodies are not in optimum health. This is exactly what Sheryl Walters who is a kinesiologist, nutritionist and holistic practitioner says. She catogorically says that the lack of forgiveness can affect our health. All this is a confirmation of what the Bible has always declared. A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22) and Proverbs 15:13 says : “A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit”. A merry heart is good like medicine. God bless you with His joy! And be sure to pass your joy around.
